Last year, we announced that Showtime is preparing for a new series based on the 1999 classic movie “The Wood.” The original movie starring Omar Epps, Taye Diggs, and Richard T. Jones. Now the network has announced a cast of new comedy pilots.

according to variety, Richard T. Jones will return to replay his role as Slim, and Tamala Jones will replay her role as Tanya. Also part of the cast are award-winning rappers Vince Staples, Melving Legs, Karen Ovilom, Xavier Mills and Essence Renae.

Vince will appear as a pilot as Jamal.

The project will be directed and executive produced by Rick Famuyiwa, who wrote and directed the 1999 film. Justin Hillian will write the pilot’s script and will also be Executive Producer with Fam Ewa.

As Before According to reports, the synopsis describes the series as follows:An honest view of friendship and dating from the perspective of three young black men born and raised in Inglewood, a suburb of Los Angeles with gentrification. The trio’s struggle to balance paternity, ambition, and loyalty has forced us to question whether they are growing apart or close to each other.

The 1999 film focused on three childhood friends reminiscent of growing up together in Inglewood, California. While working to get their friend Roland (Taye Diggs) down the aisle on his wedding day, viewers get to see the development of their friendship and romantic relationships in flashback scenes.
