LOS ANGELES — Authorities on Wednesday seized thousands of suspected fentanyl pills hidden in candy boxes at Los Angeles International Airport.

Around 7:30 a.m., someone attempted security with a bag of snacks and candy, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“However, it turned out that boxes of Candy from Sweetarts, Skittles and Whoppers contained fentanyl pills.

Authorities say about 12,000 tablets were seized by sheriff detectives and agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration assigned to them at airports.

Authorities said the trafficking suspect fled but was identified.

Authorities recently warned that drug dealers were disguising fentanyl in candy wrappers and producing rainbow colors.

“As Halloween approaches, parents should check their children’s candy and don’t let them eat anything until it’s inspected.

The ministry said parents should not come in contact with suspect drugs and immediately notify law enforcement.
