Neighbors say it was a terrifying sight as the child’s mother tried to pull the dog away from the little boy.
“I couldn’t sleep all night,” said neighbor Maria Rocha. “My heart is broken. I couldn’t sleep all night.”
He was taken to the Trinitas Community Medical Center for emergency and was confirmed dead after 6:30 pm.
Local residents say dogs are always scared and the yard where the vicious attack took place is full of dung, motorcycles and debris.
“I can’t believe this happened to a little kid three years old,” Rocha said. “He’s a baby. Maybe it’s mine or someone else. He’s a baby. Did you get killed by a dog? “
Neighbors said they were thinking with such a painful dead boy.
“I just pray that he wasn’t suffering. Do you understand what I mean?” Rocha said. “I hope he wasn’t suffering because it was quick.”
Deputy Union County Prosecutor Lindsay Luotro, Elizabeth Police Chief Giacomo Sacca, and Police Secretary Earl Graves said the situation was under investigation, but have not been charged at this time.
A representative of a local animal management organization responded to the scene, secured the dog, and then took it to another location.
Anyone who has any information on this matter is urged to contact the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Detective Richard Acosta (908-347-0404) or Detective Michael Tambini (908-472-4301).
