A Florida man was arrested at Newark Liberty International Airport after discovering a pistol in his carry-on baggage

Newark, NJ (WABC)-A Florida man was arrested at Newark Liberty International Airport after a TSA agent found a fist gun in a carry bag on Friday.

The man told the authorities that he was going to declare a gun, but he forgot.

According to a TSA spokesman, the gun was unloaded and packed in a hard side case with a box containing 35 bullets. It follows a protocol on how to pack when declaring a weapon.

The gun was found at an X-ray checkpoint by a TSA agent who called the Port Authority police.

This is one of the 13 firearms discovered at Newark’s TSA checkpoint this year, with more weapons despite a decrease in overall travelers.

Passengers can only transport firearms in check bags after declaring their weapons and packing them according to the protocol.

TSA agents discovered 3,257 firearms in passenger or carry-on baggage in 2020, with approximately 83% of those guns loaded.
