A Fort Myers woman was arrested in Sarasota Wednesday night after police said she was struck by a gun and forced a teenager to drive through the city.
Police arrested Dina Wilson, 61, after witnesses called Wilson pointing his gun at a 16-year-old girl, according to Sarasota police.
The victim told officers that she drove to Lido Beach to watch the sunset. As she opened the trunk, Wilson approached her to ask for a jumper cable. When her victim said she didn’t have anything, she said Wilson asked a couple near her. When the couple said they didn’t have a jumper cable, the victim pulled a small gun from her right side and brought it where the victim could see it, and she her at South Lido Beach. He said he told the victim to drive into his car.
After arriving at South Lido Beach, Wilson got out of the victim’s car and left the passenger door open, according to arrest reports. She returned to her victim’s car after digging around her own car. And she told her to take her to get her food. The victim took Wilson to a convenience store in the 1000 block of the North Tamami Trail in Sarasota, sending a text message to her friend when Wilson entered her, while being threatened with her gun. She wrote that she was forced to drive Wilson. Before the victim updated her friend, her friend called 911 and said they were returning to the Lido Beach area.
SPD officers were already in South Lido Park after locking the entrance gate at night. Additional officers shared that the victim was driving a gray SUV. After a while, the gray SUV was pulled into South Lido Park through the exit gate and drove quickly towards the police patrol car. The policeman drove towards the SUV, stopped her vehicle, ordered Wilson to exit her passenger seat door, and detained her.
Wilson was taken to Sarasota Police Headquarters and interviewed by a detective. She was subsequently arrested and charged with imprisonment, forcing her 16-year-old victim to drive her to a place against her will by the threat of a gun. Detectives believe this is an isolated case and poses no threat to the public. Wilson is detained in Sarasota County Jail with a $ 250,000 bond.
