Hit and Run occurred after 9 pm on Long Beach Road near Marina Place in Island Park.
Police are victims, Dodanim Emanuel Chavez, I was attacked by a car running south on Long Beach Road I suffered from serious trauma.
Chavez was taken to the hospital, where he was sentenced to death, and his mourning widow spoke to witness news.
“When I got here, I found him dead on the ground,” said his wife Laura Chavez. “Now I’m home and he’s not around. I can’t call him anymore. I can’t send him text anymore. I don’t know what to do.”
Police said Wednesday that Centereach’s 31-year-old Corey Henson had been arrested and charged with leaving the scene of the deadly incident.
Chavez was in the process of moving from his home on Long Beach Road to a new home on the street.
“We just built another house,” Laura Chavez said. “He is not here to enjoy the house with his family.”
His wife said he had just finished packing the car and walked around to board when witnesses said an unstable white Dodge minivan had attacked him.
Their 16-year-old stepchild, Eric Cisneros, was flagged by Chavez’s stepmother.
“My grandma, she was half crying and dragging me,” he said. “And she said,’He’s dead,’ and I was like,’What?’ So I ran up here and saw my body flowing to the ground, across the floor. I saw blood flowing. I saw his body, and I was shocked, and I ran to catch my mother. “
Born in El Salvador and later immigrated to the United States, Chavez survives with his wife, a three-year-old daughter named Emma, and two stepchildren.
“He will never see her grow up, she will never see her father. She was very close to him,” Laura Chavez said. “He was a man, everyone needed him, he was there for them.”
