Air traffic controllers help passengers land planes

West Palm Beach, Florida — After the pilot had obvious medical problems, an air traffic controller guided passengers to a safe landing at Palm Beach International Airport on a small private plane.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, an incident related to the single-engine Cessna 208 occurred around 12:30 pm on Tuesday.

FAA spokeswoman Crystal Essiaw said the two were on board the aircraft.

The air traffic controller was able to communicate with the passengers in the cockpit until landing.

After the plane landed safely, the air traffic controller said, “I pay tribute to the new pilot.”

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said one was taken to the hospital. The person’s condition was not immediately known.

FAA is investigating the case further.
