Sarasota — A new direct route among all the new airline changes and expanded checkpoints at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.
Service to Cedar Rapids, Iowa via Allegiant began on November 19th.
“Florida is a popular winter destination for travelers from the Midwest,” said Drew Wells, Senior Vice President of Revenue and Network Planning at Allegiant. “We hope that this new route between Cedar Rapids and Sarasota will boost the local economy while at the same time providing residents with new, affordable and convenient travel options.”
The new route runs twice a week.
“We welcome the new direct flight between Eastern Iowa Airport and Sarasota Bradenton International Airport,” said Rick Piccolo, President and CEO of SRQ. “Travelers from the Cedar Rapids community and the Sarasota-Bradenton area will appreciate Allegiant’s low fares and convenient direct flights.”
This announcement is made because the airport is a record year with 2,494,632 passengers by the end of October. SRQ also announced the addition of its eleventh service provider, Avelo Airlines, last month.
In April, the airport expanded the checkpoint from 4 lanes to 5 lanes and added a 6th screening lane before Thanksgiving. Over the next decade, Sarasota Manatee Airport authorities will add more commercial, hotel and office space to real estate owned on land in northern Sarasota, especially along the University Parkway.
The airport also tripled the capacity of the jet fuel tank by adding two 100,000 gallon tanks and expanded the long-term parking lot by 140 cars. Plans are underway to pave the airport overflow lot and add another lot for the peak season.
