According to the Florida Prosecutor’s Office, a 22-year-old man was arrested after finding a loaded gun and shooting his mother while a toddler was making a zoom call in August. 21-year-old Shamaya Lin died of a gunshot wound.

Lynn’s boyfriend and gun owner, Veondore Avery, was charged with manslaughter and unsafe storage of firearms. According to the law firm, he was taken to Seminole County Jail without incident.

Lynn was attending the Zoom conference call on August 11, but she fell back and did not return to the conference call, the law firm said. Another person on the phone, called 911, reported seeing the toddler in the background, hearing the sound, and seeing Lynn fall.

Police at Alta Monte Springs said police arrived at the couple’s apartment and found that Lynn had been shot in the head and Avery was trying to perform CPR. According to the law firm, Lynn died on the scene.

Investigators determined that Lynn’s two-year-old child found and fired a gun loaded in a “Paup Patrol” backpack in the couple’s bedroom. Police said in a statement that the gun had been left in the apartment by an adult.

Police have asked those who have more information about the incident to call 407-339-2441 or 911.
