According to a paper published in, portable devices may help reduce fatigue and improve multitasking ability in sleep-deprived people by passing current through the skin of the neck to the vagus nerve. The authors found that those who received vagal maneuver performed better on tasks that tested their ability to concentrate and multitask. They also reported less fatigue and higher energy than those who received placebo stimulation. These effects peaked 12 hours after stimulation and the improvement in alertness lasted up to 19 hours.
