President Joe Biden will visit Texas on Friday. The state begins to recover from a devastating winter storm that has caused serious damage to homes and businesses throughout the state and has not given many people electricity and clean water for days.
The White House announced on Tuesday that Biden and his wife Jill will travel to Houston on Friday. While there, he meets with local leaders to discuss the ongoing recovery from last winter’s storm and visit the COVID-19 Health Center where vaccines are distributed.
Millions of Texas residents continue to be notified of boiling water after sub-zero temperatures and heavy snowfalls have caused power outages and pipe ruptures throughout the state, and local authorities say Texas tap water safety. Is warning about. Some Texas people have been left with widespread damage from heavy snowfall and ruptured home and company pipes, while others have been after power grid failures have affected production and demand. I have thousands of dollars in electricity bills.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner told CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday that Texas should bear these “exorbitant costs” rather than residents.
“For those who receive these exorbitant electricity bills and have to pay to repair their homes, they shouldn’t have to take responsibility,” he said.
The White House announced on Saturday that the president had declared a catastrophe in Texas, and he asked federal agencies to identify additional resources to deal with suffering.
Biden had previously tweeted about Texas and other affected states, regularly received updates from staff, and declared a state of emergency in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Biden spoke to the governors of the seven states most affected by the winter weather. He tweeted his photo over the phone with Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has also shipped dozens of generators and equipment to the affected areas, including fuel, water, blankets, and ready-to-eat meals.
Biden said he wanted to travel to Texas last week, but didn’t want his presence and the president’s aides to interfere with the recovery.
