Why People Buy Metformin for Weight loss?

Many people want to see the number on the scale decrease. Whether it be for better health, wellness, or vanity – weight loss seems to be something many people want, but few achieve. This is evident with the increasing prevalence of obesity and overweight adults. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 73.6% of Americans over the age of 20 are considered overweight. An even more concerning statistic is that 42.5% of Americans – nearly half the population – are obese. As a leading cause of death worldwide, obesity is regarded as an epidemic, with 1 billion overweight/obese adults globally.

The topic of obesity is complex as it is often the result of a number of factors, including genetics and behavior, with food intake, dietary patterns and activity level being the most apparent contributors. Yet, despite behavior being a contributing factor, it can be very challenging for individuals to lose weight.

From a physical and mental health perspective, those who are classified as obese have a reduced quality of life. This reduced quality of life is primarily due to the health challenges these individuals experience due to their increased weight. For example, those who are obese are at a higher risk for Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, cancer, mental illness, pain, heart disease, and osteoarthritis. These risks and health issues are often motivators for those looking to drop pounds. However, when suffering from osteoarthritis, pain, and high blood pressure, it can make exercise and cooking a significant challenge. Simply standing in the kitchen over the stove can cause a great deal of pain and fatigue.  Fortunately, there are other remedies that can help trigger weight loss that do not require a high degree of mobility.

Though lifestyle changes are critical to maintaining a healthy weight, there are prescription therapies that can also help with weight loss — one of these prescription therapies is metformin.

Many people are now looking to buy metformin for weight loss. Metformin is derived from natural compounds found in the French lilac plant and is an FDA-approved drug used to treat diabetes. The drug has had an outstanding safety record for over 60 years. More recently, it has also been used for its incredible longevity benefits. Research has found that metformin can lower the risk of colon and pancreatic cancer, macrovascular disease, cognitive impairment, and dementia. Further, it has also been found to reduce one’s chance of diabetes and facilitate weight loss.

A 2012 study published in Experimental and Clinical Endocrinology and Diabetes revealed metformin to be effective for weight loss in non-diabetic individuals with obesity. The study’s objective was to examine the efficacy of metformin to reduce the weight of obese and overweight individuals in a real-life outpatient setting. The researchers believed metformin could be an effective weight-loss drug due to its role in insulin resistance.

The study consisted of 154 patients, each with a body mass index greater than 27 kg/m (2). These individuals were treated in an outpatient setting for over six months and received 2500 mg of metformin per day. As a control, the researchers used 45 patients who were left untreated. Researchers monitored these individuals’ weight and any resulting changes over the course of 6 months. Further, the study participants’ insulin sensitivity was measured prior to treatment by calculating the HOMA index and Matsuda index after a 75 g glucose tolerance test.

After six months, the results revealed that the mean weight loss for those treated with metformin was between 5.8 and 7 kg (5.6 – 6.5%). This is a significant difference from the untreated controls who gained weight. On average, the controls gained between 0.8 and 3.5 kg (0.8 – 3.7%). The results also found that the individuals who had severe insulin resistance lost significantly more weight than those who were insulin sensitive. Additionally, the percentage of weight loss achieved by taking metformin was independent of age, sex, or BMI. Thus, the researchers concluded that “metformin is an effective drug to reduce weight in a naturalist outpatient setting in insulin sensitive and insulin resistant overweight and obese patients.”

Medical professionals routinely prescribe metformin off-label to assist with weight loss. Understandably, more people want to buy metformin for weight loss and experience similar results for themselves. Those interested in buying metformin can speak with their doctor to see if its appropriate for them.  AgelessRx, for example, is a telehealth platform that puts you in touch with medical professionals knowledgeable about various weight loss interventions and would evaluate if metformin is appropriate. Those who want to buy metformin can visit their website and get connected with a medical professional.

Each year obesity-related medical care costs in the United States over one hundred billion dollars. Further, nationwide productivity costs of obesity-related absenteeism are an additional $4 million. Metformin is a cost-effective way of reducing the nation’s rate of obesity. It is currently listed on the World of Health’s Essential Medicines, a catalog of the most effective, safe, and cost-effective therapies for diabetes.

For many, weight loss isn’t simply about fitting into their clothes better or changing the way they look in the mirror. Instead, it will improve their quality of life and prolong it. By losing weight, you can improve mental health and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, improve sleep quality, lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. If you are looking for an effective weight loss solution, metformin may be the answer.
