Brett Baty, one of Mets’ top prospects, is finding his way in Double-A

Brett Baty heard a whisper.

Binghamton Rumble Pony’s 21-year-old third baseman and left fielder, Mets’double A affiliate, has chosen to distract the idea that he may become Mets’ third baseman in the near future.

“I usually try to stop it all,” ranked by Baseball America in Mets’ fifth best outlook, including having the highest power and strike zone discipline in the system. Bati said. “My focus is on Binghamton and Double A level. I’m here and trying to improve and improve myself.

“I’m not really worried about a couple of years from now. Obviously, I’m excited. [people] I think i can [the Mets’ future third baseman].. For now, I’m trying to focus on playing in Binghamton. ”

Baty (pronounced BAY-dee) was impressive in 51 games at High-A Brooklyn this season. His slash line is .309 / .397 / .514, 7 home runs, 14 doubles, 27 runs, after playing two days ago in the Futures Game in Coors Field, Colorado, before being promoted to Binghamton on July 13. It was 34 RBIs.

“It was great-it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Bati, who was 0-2 in the game. “I was able to play with a lot of talented guys and go out to a big league stadium full of fans. The atmosphere was certainly a dream come true.”

Mets’ first round pick (and 12th overall selection in the MLB draft) from Lake Travis (Texas) High School was in Binghamton with one home run, seven runs and seven RBIs in 13 games through Thursday. Recorded 196.

“His start was late, but for those of us who have been in the game for a while, it doesn’t surprise us,” said Lorenzo Bandy, manager of Rumble Pony. “Jumping from the A ball to double A, whether high A or low A, is probably the biggest jump on the way to the big league other than going to the big league.”

Bati said: “I can’t say I’m approaching. The competition is a little better and the pitchers [at Double-A] I know how to find the ball better. Other than that, it’s almost the same. I’ll grind it. “

However, Mets’ fourth outlook, ranked by the MLB pipeline, shows signs of settling in Binghamton. Bati performed 4-4, 6 RBIs in a win against Erie, including his first double-A home run on July 24th.

“Or [game] I want to overcome it with confidence. ”

According to Bandy, the natural third baseman plays two games a week in the leftfield and enjoys a move of £ 6-3, £ 210.

“It was great to show a little bit of my diversity and athleticism. I’m playing a different position than third base,” Bati said.

Bati knows the possibilities at hand, but is determined to focus on getting better every day.

“I’m ready to work on the Double A level with Binghamton,” he said. “I’m looking closely at the ball and I’m confident … I couldn’t ask for any more situations.”
