Los Angeles – Republican Caitlyn Jenner said Friday he would run for California Governor and shock celebrities into a new campaign that could resign Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom.
Olympic hero, reality TV personality and transgender rights activist Jenner submits the first documents to run for the post in a statement posted on Twitter and its accompanying website. He said he did.
Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom faces the possibility of a call election this year, but election officials are still considering the petition signatures needed to qualify for ballots. Several other Republicans have also announced plans to implement it.
In a statement, Jenner called himself a “proven winner” and “the only candidate who could end Gavin Newsom’s tragic time as governor.”
A 71-year-old celebrity activist described himself as “economically conservative and socially progressive” in an interview with People magazine last year.
She quickly stands out in emerging areas that have previously been unable to attract nationally known candidates. However, Jenner has not been tested as a candidate and little is known about her position on the critical issues facing the state, from the coronavirus pandemic to economic control.
Her practice will come almost 20 years after the promotion of another Republican, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who used Hollywood’s fame as a springboard to California’s premier office in the 2003 recall.
As expected, voters will be asked two questions if the recall is eligible for voting. The first is whether Newsom should be dismissed. The second is a list of alternative candidates that more than 50% of voters choose if they support Newsom’s dismissal.
