Roman, a resident of Babylon Village, wanted to bring a similar pride hug to this Long Island community.

“People should feel accepted and grateful in their backyard,” Roman said. “You don’t have to flee to the city or Fire Island to be accepted. You can be yourself in your backyard.”

This idea turned into a brainstorming session with Roman’s best friend Bob McKeown.

McKeown met Roman a few years ago at a restaurant where he and his wife often go. Over the years, an intimate friendship has fostered between Roman and McKeown.

“A pandemic has happened and we’ll do it,” McKean said.

With the help of friends and family, McKean and Roman assembled a makeshift car parade in just seven days.

After last year’s success, the duo approached the current Mayor of Babylon, Mary Adams, and proposed a five-year plan to continue the parade.

Adams wants to make the next parade even bigger and better, and that’s exactly what happened on Sunday, June 6th.

This year’s parade featured 50 cars with the finest pride decoration. The street was closed for safety. As the car passed, the crowds of Babylon Village flooded the street and chanted words of encouragement.
