Andrew Chiaro accused of assaulting teenager over baseball at Long Island’s Greenlawn Skatepark

Green Lawn, New York (WABC) — A baseball altercation escalated into a violent assault at a skate park in Suffolk County, captured on camera.

The video shows a man in a baseball uniform pushing and grabbing a teenage boy after he refused to return the ball.

Andrew Chiaro was arrested on May 25th in connection with an incident that occurred at Greenlawn Skatepark around 7pm on May 21st.

Trento Raunsaval is 6 feet tall and although his build may make him look older than he really is, he is still 15 years old.

“I just thought it couldn’t really be happening right now. Someone much older than me was messing with me,” Raungsaval said.

Raungsaval was riding his mountain bike up a slope that day, something he had done for years, when a ball flew in from an adjacent baseball field and flew into an area where children were avoiding it. did it.

“The ball landed in the park and almost hit me in the head, almost right in front of me, so I picked it up and put it in my pocket,” Raunsaval said.

Raungsaval’s mother said Chiaro, 36, came up and slapped her son in the face and demanded, “Where’s my fine ball?”

“It wasn’t like, ‘Hey kid, can I get the ball back’…he was attacked and the whole group of kids were threatened,” said Trent’s mother, Terry Lipton.

The video shows Chiaro pulling the boy’s neck and trying to throw him to the ground, as well as throwing his friend’s bike at him.

Chiaro was charged with assaulting a child and endangering welfare.

“If they came up front and just demanded, they could have given the ball back and it would be all over, but that never happened and they came out of the dugout immediately and started yelling at me. ‘, said Raunsaval.

Lipton said he had to persuade his side to win justice for his son and is now asking police to investigate.

Police initially met with some resistance, she said.

Ms Lipton said police told her, “You’re not that badly injured, you’re about the same size as him, and if we accuse him of harassment, you’ll be slapped for robbery and you’ll both be handcuffed.” I know it’s only going to be done,” he said.

Meanwhile, the baseball team was banned from playing at Huntington, and Chiaro was given a 10-week suspension. The Long Island Stan Musical Baseball League is considering a lifetime suspension.

In the future, the town plans to add more wires and mesh to the cages to prevent balls from flying out.

The Nassau County Attorney’s Office said Chiaro was arrested for weapons possession years ago and is due to appear in court again next month on new charges.
