City of Fort Myers funds Crime Stoppers to help hunt suspects

With two men killed every other day and those responsible on the run, the city of Fort Myers plans to assist in the search.

The city of Fort Myers is helping the search by funding Crime Stoppers after a football coach was shot dead in a truck. Danny Hand, 61, was killed the next day by a hit-and-run driver.

The Fort Myers Police Department is investigating both incidents.

The City of Fort Myers does not want this type of crime to continue or increase. Wink News spoke with the Mayor of Fort Myers, who said crimes such as homicides and hit-and-runs have dropped significantly in recent years.

Lawrence Cuffes’ life changed forever when his father was killed by a hit-and-run driver. “He’s not only my father, he’s my best friend, and they’ve taken something from me that will never be replaced,” Cuffs said.

On July 30, Hand, 61, was killed by a driver who was hit and run on Highland Avenue. His son Cuffs can’t figure out how someone could leave the scene with their lives taken.

“They separated him from his grandchildren, separated him from his sister, his mother, his wife. I mean, his wife is devastated,” Cuffs said. “That was all she had and they just took it from her.”

Now Cuffs is doing everything in his power to find his father’s killer, and the Fort Myers City Council is pushing hard to bring the suspects to justice.

Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson said, “It’s always scary to hear about someone losing their life, but knowing them or being connected to them makes it a little more painful.

Alderman Johnny Streets feels this pain deeply, considering he was a family friend of football coach Craig Trattling, who was murdered in his car near Highland Avenue on July 29. rice field.

“The city council generally said, ‘We’re going to fund the street movement of city council members to see if we can help them get tips to identify and arrest the perpetrators.'” Mayor Anderson said.

“I feel special. My family feels special for taking the time to help us in this situation,” Kufus said.

In both cases, a $5,500 reward is offered for information leading to an arrest. The funds the city invests in CrimeStopper come from the Johnny Street Discretionary Fund. Each city councilor has one of hers, which they get from the taxpayer’s money, but these he has the Crimestoppers (1- Call 800-780-TIPS (8477).
