Virus infections are skyrocketing in Moscow
Aggregates for new coronavirus infections in the Russian capital have increased by more than 1,000 from the previous day as Moscow heads for the week when many businesses are closed under the mayor’s orders. The National Coronavirus Response Headquarters said on Sunday that 7,704 new cases of infection were recorded and continued to soar to surprise city officials. At the beginning of June, Moscow recorded about 2900 new cases a day.
Japan Airlines begins vaccination of workers
Japan Airlines All Nippon Airways has begun vaccination of pilots and flight attendants on international flights. This makes it one of the first companies to start vaccination at work in Japan, one of the least vaccinated countries in the world. Japan is desperately pushing to accelerate the pace of inoculation before the Tokyo Olympics begin in about 40 days.
Chinese cities deploy a fleet of drones to remind residents of COVID restrictions
60 drones have been deployed in Guangzhou, southern China, keeping people indoors and encouraging people to wear masks when they go out. China has significantly eradicated cases of local COVID-19 infection, but Guangzhou has seen a relapse of the more infectious delta-type virus first found in India.
