Manhattan, Westside (WABC) — Police are investigating two separate attacks on women on Manhattan’s West Side and have warned the public to be vigilant.
In the first crime, a woman was sexually assaulted while jogging in Riverside Park. She says the man tried to rape her.
The victim was jogging on the Riverside Drive and West 89th Street bike path around 10 p.m. Tuesday when he was approached by an unknown man on a bicycle.
The man got off his bike, pushed the 38-year-old victim to the ground and continued to sexually assault him before walking away.
The victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. His condition is stable, but he still has minor bruises on his body.
Authorities said the suspect was a fair-skinned man, aged between 30 and 40, and about 5 feet 6 inches tall.
He was last seen riding a dark bicycle wearing a red sports jersey with “40” written across the back.
Police said the second incident occurred at 4:45 a.m. Thursday in a park, this time on West 59th Street and Riverside Boulevard.
A 33-year-old woman told police she was walking in a park when a man approached her and tried to start a conversation, resulting in minor cuts and bruises.
The suspect then threw the victim on the ground and touched him before stealing a mobile phone and running away.
The two incidents are not believed to be related.
The New York City Police Department is scheduled to speak later Friday morning on the progress of investigations into both of these attacks.
Anyone with information about these incidents should call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Calls are kept confidential.
