Popular ‘Food for Fines’ Program Returns to St. John’s County Libraries

st.Johns County, Florida – A popular program that allows St. Johns County residents to waive library fines by donating non-perishable items will reopen on November 7, county officials announced this week.

The “Food for Fines” program will run from Monday, November 7th through Monday, December 19th, where residents will help support most of the food by donating food items that are used to be stored at the St. Johns County Health Department. Library fines can be waived. Human Services (HHS) Food Pantry.

A $1 fine will be removed from patrons’ library records for each non-perishable, non-expired food item, officials said.

The Fine Reduction Program applies only to late fines, and patrons can bring in as many items as they need to reduce their late fines.

Charges related to damaged or lost items are not included in the Food for Fines program.

Any library user can make a donation without penalty. Food can be deposited at the St. Johns County Library branch or at the Bookmobile for St. Johns County families in need.

Last year, St. Johns County residents provided over 3,500 fresh produce through the Food for Fines program.
