Tallahassee, Florida (AP) — Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis has announced that lawmakers will return to the Capitol in late May for a special session to address rising real estate premium rates in the state.
The Republican Governor on Tuesday set up a session from May 23rd to May 27th.
He ordered the Republican-controlled State Capitol to consider legislation on property insurance, reinsurance, and changes to building codes.
DeSantis says the insurance market needs to stabilize ahead of the hurricane season.
He also raised a number of issues with the state’s market, including high litigation rates to raise premiums and recently bankruptcy insurance companies.
