Volcanic experts at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of Italy said on Friday that such volcanic storms are rare, but can occur especially in violent eruptions and volcanoes near the sea.
Volcanologist Boris Behnke told AP news agency that the lightning was observed once on Mount Etna in 2021 and before that in 2015.
The eruption just before midnight on Thursday caused no damage. But it fired 10 kilometers (more than 6 miles) of ash over the sky. Sea level..
Mount Etna is one of the most abundant mountains in Europe active volcanoAnd its eruptions are not uncommon.
