Dubai restaurants offer discounts for vaccinated diners

Restaurants in Dubai have begun offering discounts to customers who have been vaccinated with the coronavirus in the process of vaccination as the emirates are trying to fight the pandemic without closing the door.

The United Arab Emirates has already vaccinated about 2.5 million out of a population of about 10 million, the second highest rate in the world after Israel.

Social media leaflets at three restaurants run by Gates Hospitality, “Spread Love, Not Rona,” offer a 10% discount for first-time vaccination residents and a 20% discount for two-time vaccination residents. Say you are.

You will need to show proof of vaccination, such as a medical certificate, to receive the discount.

Some people welcomed the move, but frowned on social media.

“There are two ways to see it. It’s another marketing stunt or a real motivation to get more people vaccinated,” said one tweet.

The UAE, which consists of seven Emirates, including Dubai, began high doses in December after approving the vaccine by Chinese company Sinopharm, US pharmaceutical company Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech.

Dubai health officials said vaccinations need to be reduced this week after Pfizer announced a delay in shipments for work at a major Belgian plant. The Sinopharm vaccine is still available for free.

Despite the surge in incidents since the New Year, Dubai is still open to tourists, restaurants and services are in operation, but there are rules regarding masking and distance.

Over the weekend, guidelines became stricter, reducing the number of people available for social gatherings from 200 to 10, and restaurants and cafes ordered table spacing to increase from 2 meters to 3 meters.

The flashy emirate also suspended non-essential surgery in hospitals after a surge in COVID-19 infections.

Dubai reopened to visitors in July, while other tourist destinations have applied strict restrictions to control the pandemic.

On Sunday, the UAE announced 3,579 COVID-19 cases. This is the highest value for 13 consecutive days. To date, more than 277,000 infections have been recorded, including 792 deaths.
