Elderly people in Naples get COVID-19 booster shot

Naples

The joy was in the air at the Naples Senior Center on Monday.

Stenet Johnson joined 99 other seniors on Monday and received a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

For Johnson, it’s a breath of freedom. “I got my third shot and now I can enter Publix or Walmart without fear. This is life-changing for me.”

Dr. Jacqueline Fafer, president and chief executive officer of the Naples Senior Center, said seniors are cautiously optimistic about the end of the pandemic and the high demand for a third dose. ..

“When the shot was approved, we started receiving calls from the people who gave the shot in the past, and the number of calls increased day by day, and there were more than 32 calls in one day alone. At that point, we contacted the health department, “Faffer said.

A special clinic was set up and the Senior Citizens Center began calling the highest risk seniors. Seniors like Shirley and John Wagner.

“I’m really excited to get this,” said Charlene Wagner.

John Wagner said: Nice people at the Senior Citizens Center. “

Stenet Johnson said he would do it again. “If it’s the fourth shot, I’m there to take it whatever it takes to get rid of this virus. I’m there to get it done.”

The Senior Center will hold another Booster Clinic on Wednesday afternoon and hopes to do it three times a week.

The clinic only offers Moderna vaccine.
