Entertainment Evolution: How Florida’s Attractions Are Changing

Florida’s entertainment industry is evolving. The Sunshine State has long been associated with Disney World and Universal Studios. However, those aren’t the only attractions in town. For example, in January 2020, the Museum of Illusions opened on International Drive. Featuring more than 50 exhibits, the museum brings science, math, and psychology to life. Then there’s Dezerland Park in Miami. Florida’s largest indoor attraction offers everything from rock climbing and karting to arcade games and virtual reality stations. When it comes to entertainment under one roof, Dezerland is the state’s go-to destination.

Bridging the gap between live and digital entertainment is Creative Village. The former site of Amway Arena is now a business, residential, and social hub that “connects Orlando’s deep education, technology, and digital media sectors.” The development opened in 2019 and, so far, $700 million worth of investment has created homes, academic hubs, and innovation centers. More will follow over the next decade, but the crucial point to grasp here is that Creative Village is a product of the digital revolution. We all know the impact the internet has had over the last two decades; Florida hasn’t been immune from these changes and Creative Village is an example of this.

Florida’s Entertainment Sector is Going Digital

In fact, the state’s entertainment industry as a whole has embraced the power of the internet. Yes, Creative Village is one example, but many more innovations are likely to follow over the next decade or two. One such innovation is online gaming. An offshoot of bricks-and-mortar gaming, online casinos are poised to go live in Florida.

It is clear that the potential is enormous. The wheels are currently in motion and, as you’d expect, the Seminole Tribe is part of the process. As we’ve seen with projects such as Creative Village, finding ways to use digital innovations to boost the local economy is crucial. Florida’s GDP in 2020 was $1.1 trillion, but it could always be better. Online gaming could provide a financial boost.

New Jersey has had online gaming regulations since 2013. In 2021, monthly revenue among its network of online casinos and betting sites topped $100 million. Unsurprisingly, it’s now a valuable and integral part of the Garden State’s entertainment economy. The same could be true in Florida. If government officials continue to embrace change and find a way to integrate casino gaming with the new wave of digital entertainment sweeping the state, big things could happen over the next five years.
