Travel-related scams are on the rise as the number of travelers is increasing.

Scammers know that no one wants to wait on a long security line. But this impatience can come at the expense of you. Fake sites will pop up on Google along with real sites.

TSAPreCheck and GlobalEntry are excellent programs known as trusted traveller programs. They help you get through those long lines faster.

And now that we’re traveling more and more in the United States, it may be time to renew our program registration. Therefore, scammers who know this have set up fake sites to try to trick you.

Bryan Oglesby is working with Better Business Bureau. “Consumers who search the government’s TSA PreCheck website online and come across fake third-party websites update their tsp pre check information and convince scammers that they are providing their personal information.” Said Oglesby.

While it is common for scammers to contact potential victims via email or text, this scam relies on online advertising and social media displayed on search engines. Clicking on any of these links will take you to a fraudulent site that can steal your money or personal information.

To stay safe, you can:

  • Search the website yourself
  • Check the spelling on the website and look for the end of the .gov
  • Look for the appearance in the upper left corner of the web address bar
  • And, as always, make a plan to steal your personal information

Don’t hesitate to use them as these programs actually improve the airport experience. However, make sure you are providing the information to the right people. Theft of personal information is on the rise and will not disappear, so be sure to make a plan in case of emergency.
