Florida has the third highest number of textbook bans

Orlando, Florida (AP) —Since July last year, there have been more than 200 cases of book bans in public school districts in Florida.

This is the third highest number of incidents in any state of the United States, according to a new report from an advocacy group of authors.

According to PEN America, there were 204 book bans in seven school districts between July 2021 and March 2022 in Florida.

According to PEN America, the school districts were located in Brevard, Clay, Flagler, Indian River, Orange, Pinellas, and Pork counties.

Books banned in Florida include Isabel Allende’s “The House of Spirits” and Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
