Florida reggae band sues Dua Lipa

West Palm Beach, Florida — A reggae band based in Delray Beach is suing Dua Lipa for copyright infringement.

The complaint filed in the Federal Court of Justice in Los Angeles on Tuesday was filed on behalf of the Artikal Sound System.

The Grammy-winning 26-year-old musician’s hit single “Levating” claims to have copied the band’s 2017 song “Live Your Life” from the 2020 album “Future Nostalgia.”

“Levitating” surpassed Billboard’s hottest end-of-100-year song chart for 2021.

The Artikal Sound System claims that the band is obliged to benefit from “levitating” and is seeking a jury trial.

Founded in 2012 by guitarist Chris Montague and bassist Fabian Akna, Artikal Sound System released their latest album “Welcome to Florida” last month.

The band was recently announced as one of the acts scheduled to appear at the West Palm Beach Sunfest later this year.
