Google Identity Services updates make it easier to implement authentication

Last year Google announced Google Identity Services (GIS), This is a set of APIs that integrates several identity offerings from the company. The GIS development kit includes[Googleでサインイン]Buttons and authentication prompts[ワンタップ]is included.

Today, Google is adding authorization capabilities to GIS to enhance its SDK offerings, making it easier for developers to implement secure authentication in their apps.

According to the company, the new certification library acts as a “one-stop shop” for certification and approval. Authentication allows new users to sign up and return their sign-in, and authorization provides the developer with an access token to call the Google API with the user’s consent.

The SDK clearly separates these two features for greater control by the developer. Developers can make calls as two separate flows based on the needs of the app.

According to Google, the new GIS SDK uses pop-up dialogs in your browser. This reduces user friction, streamlines the authentication and authorization flow, and improves user engagement.

The SDK also improves the security of these flows by requiring users to explicitly update their sessions and prevent long-term tokens from being abused.

Another benefit of this update is that it reduces integration complexity and reduces development time. Google provides pre-written code snippets that you can easily paste into your partner site.

“Users using Google’s authentication or authorization flow will benefit from Google’s key security infrastructure that provides two-factor authentication, password recovery flow, and all sites and apps with authorization enabled will be provided by Google. I’m reassured that it’s been validated, “says Rohey Google Product Manager Livne. Position..
