Governor Andrew Cuomo, Mayor Bill de Blasio warns about coronavirus shutdown in New York if COVID rates rise

New York (WABC)-Governor Andrew Cuomo warned that if the state’s coronavirus positivity did not change, it might need to be shut down.

“If you don’t change course, you’re back to shutdown, which is worrisome,” he said.

All non-essential businesses are forced to shut down as they did when they returned to spring.

The governor referred to criticisms of closing the indoor dining room in New York City, saying that in reality, companies must be happy.

“If we don’t change course, we’ll be closed and your business will be closed, so you have to be happy,” Cuomo said. “My friends are a real problem. Death is a real worry because it is a real worry, economic closure is a real worry and they are a feasible worry.”

To prevent and manage the increase in numbers, the governor cited the hospital’s “surge and flex” program, while reducing selective surgery in the affected areas. He also begged people to stop the holiday gathering and said that “living room expansion” was responsible for 74% of the cases.

Mayor Bill de Blasio also warned the closure early Monday at a press conference.

“At the current pace, we need to be ready to shut down completely, and we need to pause, like when we’re back in late spring,” De Blasio said in a comment from the governor. “We need to be prepared for the possibility of a complete shutdown. I agree with that.

The governor and mayor commented that the country’s first New Yorkers and the first people received the Pfizer COVID vaccine on Monday.
