Governor DeSantis orders Washington, DC National Guard to return to Florida

Governor DeSantis ordered all Florida National Guards currently in Washington, DC to return Thursday night.

Now that President Joe Biden’s inauguration is over, as many as 15,000 National Guards are preparing to leave Washington, DC and return home.

Enforcement officials say the first case ended with only a handful of minor arrests and cases.

The National Guard Bureau said Thursday that only 10,600 of the approximately 26,000 guards deployed in DC for inauguration remain on duty. The bureau says the guards are helping the state with coordination and logistics to allow the troops to go home.

Guards were scattered around Washington, DC, helping to secure the Capitol, monuments, subway entrances, and the area around Central DC, which was largely blocked.

DeSantis said they were soldiers, not “servants of Nancy Pelosi.”
