Green Academy high school student is charged after a gun is found in the bathroom

A 15-year-old Grin Academy student has been charged after an unloaded gun was found in a school toilet, according to a news release on Tuesday from the school district.

A police chief at Glynn County School learned on Sunday that a child found something in his student’s backpack that looked like a weapon at some point the previous week. The student’s guardian called the police.

The district then said the police chief had spoken to the school principal and one of his officers and later determined that the weapons owned by an adult in the student’s home had been lost. One of those weapons, an unloaded 0.25 caliber pistol, was found hidden under the school wash basin on President’s Birthday when the school was not open.

Investigators did not find ammunition in the building or surrounding area.

Grin County School said students were suspended and teenagers faced “many accusations” filed by Grin County School police.
