Fans Raise Millions For Dummer Hamlin’s Toy Drive Fundraiser After Breakup

Buffalo (WPRI) — The NFL community was shaken after Buffalo Bills safety Dummer Hamlin collapsed on the field during Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The 24-year-old is now in critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest after a tackle in the first quarter.

Hamlin went down at 8:55 p.m., and the Bills gathered in prayer when he was taken off the field about 19 minutes later. A few minutes after the ambulance left the field, the game was interrupted and the players slowly left the field and headed for the locker room.

When the game was officially postponed, GoFundMe for his charity “Chasing M’s” It started circulating through social media.

The online Toy Drive fundraiser launched by Hamlin in 2020 had an original goal of raising $2,500. Since his collapse, fans have amassed more than $3 million as of Tuesday morning.

“Following his on-field injury tonight, fans across the country are showing their support for him and his family by donating to his fundraiser,” GoFundMe murmured Monday night.

Hamlin spent five years in college in his hometown of Pittsburgh, appearing in 48 games for the Panthers. He was a second-team All-ACC performer as a senior, was named team captain, and was selected to play in the Senior Bowl.

He was drafted by the Bills in the sixth round in 2021 and has appeared in 14 games as a rookie.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
