San Jacinto County, Texas — A man charged with shooting dead five neighbors, including a third grader, was arrested last week in Texas after being asked to stop shooting, sources said.

The news of Francisco Oropesa’s arrest comes after an intense four-day manhunt by multiple agencies that began Saturday in Cleveland, Texas and ended Tuesday.

Oropesa was arrested in the city of Cut and Shoot in Montgomery County, Texas, according to the San Jacinto County District Attorney’s Office.

Oropesa is a Mexican national and has been deported from the United States four times. The last time was his in 2016 and his current immigration status is still unknown.

The 38-year-old was convicted of DUI in Montgomery County in 2012 and sentenced to prison time, records show.

Authorities increased the amount of information that led to Orpoesa’s arrest after US Marshals added $20,000. So far, the FBI has offered his $25,000, multiple county crimestoppers his $5,000, and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott added his $50,000 for a total compensation of $100,000. I’m here.

The U.S. Marshals Service has supported a multi-agency investigation since Oropesa was identified as a suspect.

A stunned neighbor created a memorial for the victims, including a mother, her young son, two other women and an 18-year-old man.

Their names were Sonia Argentina Guzman Tybot, Daniel Enrique Lazo Guzman, Diana Velázquez Alvarado, Obduria Molina Rivera and José Jonathan Cáceres.

On Sunday, Gov. Greg Abbott called them illegal immigrants in a tweet.

ABC News spoke with Velázquez Alvarado’s longtime partner, Jefflinson Josue Rivera. Josue Rivera said he was a legal resident and called Abbott “inhumane” for referring to the victim in such a way.

An Abbott spokesperson appeared to retract the governor’s comments in a statement to ABC News on Monday afternoon, claiming authorities said the suspect and victim were illegally in the country.

“Losing lives is a tragedy and we sympathize with families who lost loved ones.Following the horrific shooting Friday night, federal officials have provided Texas information on perpetrators and victims I have since learned that at least one of the victims may have been legally in the U.S. The information was incorrect and undermined the important goal of finding and apprehending the perpetrators. I regret that,” he said in a statement.

A woman who lives near the scene of the shooting told our sister station, ABC13, that police found a shirt and mobile phone believed to be Oropesa’s on her property.

They found the items on Saturday and the woman’s home was raided to make sure he wasn’t inside.

“I was so scared. I couldn’t sleep. I can’t go out because I’m afraid to drive around. Something could happen,” she said.

Law enforcement agencies are asking anyone who may have found the suspect to report it immediately.
