Amazon’s long-awaited “The Lord of the Rings: Ring of Power” It will be a brand new expedition to the world of Middle-earth. JRR Tolkien’s writings explore thousands of years of history in this fictional world, giving creative teams a huge selection of resources to choose from. So how exactly does the new series fit into the “Lord of the Rings” timeline? It’s the first part — for thousands of years, no less.
When does the “ring of power” occur?
In March 2019, Amazon revealed through two depicted tweets that “The Rings of Power” will be set in the Second Age of Middle-earth. Second Age map And simple “Welcome to the Second Age.. “Tolkien enthusiasts recognize this setting as an era thousands of years before the events of the original” The Lord of the Rings “trilogy during the turmoil of Middle-earth.
Set long before the trilogy, you won’t see many of the familiar characters you already know and love. There are no Frodo, Samwise, Aragorn, Eowyn, etc. However, the familiar name and face are not completely lost.one of The main character of the series Galadriel is a royal elf seen as an airy ancient being in the “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Here she is thousands of years young and is about to warn about the imminent danger that no one else seems to see. Elrond, another major elf character from the original trilogy, also plays a major role in the new series.
The most important part of this era is the act of defining the adventures of Middle-earth: Forging the Rings of Power.
“The elf ring, the dwarven ring, the men’s ring, and the one ring that Sauron used to deceive them all. It’s a story of where they came from and the creation of all their power. What they did in each of those races“Showrunner Patrick Mackay tells Vanity Fair. The show will also cover other “ancient” events in Middle-earth, such as the rise of the evil Sauron and the collapse of the island kingdom of Númenor.
Is the “Rings of Power” based on a book?
The answer to the question of whether “The Rings of Power” is based on a book is a bit more complicated. Technically, yes, “The Rings of Power” is based on material written by Tolkien — However, it is not a standalone novel. Instead, most of the material is taken from the long, dense appendix at the end of his “Lord of the Rings” novel. These appendices contain a detailed “history” of the Second Age, which is the inspiration for the Amazon series.
What’s not so clear is how other Tolkien text elements are incorporated, and how much of the show is invented from scratch. Tolkien wrote “historical” prequels, such as “The Silmarillion” and “The Ending Story,” which span thousands of years of Middle-earth history. Some elements that have already been identified as part of the show, such as the history of Númenor, are found in these books as well as in the Lord of the Rings appendix. It’s exciting to see these parts of the iconic universe somehow explored when “The Rings of Power” arrives at Amazon on September 2nd!
