NYC Crime: Two police officers injured by machete-wielding suspect near Times Square
Midtown, Manhattan (WABC) — Two police officers were injured by a machete-wielding man near Times Square on New Year’s Eve.
Officers approached and injured a suspect armed with a large knife or machete near 52nd and 8th Avenues around 9:30 p.m.
The 19-year-old suspect was shot in the shoulder by a police officer and survived.
Both officers were hit with their weapons, but do not appear to have been stabbed or cut. Both were taken to hospital for treatment and are believed to be safe.
