Hundreds of FedEx packages found in the Alabama Forest

(CBS News)

Alabama sheriffs are trying to figure out how hundreds of FedEx packages were dumped in the woods.

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on Wednesday that luggage of various sizes was found in a canyon near the small town of Hayden.

“Currently, there are agents in places where 300-400 boxes of various sizes appear to have been thrown out of the canyon,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook. page on Wednesday.

According to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, hundreds of luggage were found scattered in rural areas near Hayden, Alabama.

Sheriff Mark Moon said an agent was dispatched to protect the scene until FedEx workers arrived to pick up their luggage. FedEx sent multiple trucks and drivers from all over the South to load the package, Moon said.

The photo posted on the sheriff’s Facebook page shows the packages scattered in the forest. The package was found about 30 miles north of Birmingham, Alabama.

According to the sheriff, it wasn’t clear why the luggage was in the canyon, but he wanted to get some answers soon.

Tennessee-based FedEx Memphis said in a statement released Friday, “We are committed to placing the safety of your luggage first and handling your luggage with the utmost care.” It states.

“We are taking steps to retrieve and transport the affected packages as soon as possible,” the company said. “In addition to working with law enforcement agencies, we are reviewing this situation and taking appropriate action.”
