Illinois (18-6, 15-4) lost 81-72 in Michigan, broke his nose on Tuesday and played without Ayo Dosunmu, a national candidate who missed two games in a row. Dosunmu defeated Wisconsin 75-60 on February 6th to record a triple-double. Two more weeks later, it exploded at 94-63 in Minnesota.

Irini took advantage of Wisconsin’s shooting predicament to win the rematch without Dosunmu.

Wisconsin shot 17 more shots than Illinois in the first half, but Illinois was so much more efficient that he dragged 37-26 on the break. Illinois shot 65% in the first half, moving from a 3-point range to 4/6, while Wisconsin shot 27%, crossing the arc to 14-3.

Big picture

Illinois: Illinois has won the last three meetings with Wisconsin since losing 15 times in a row in the series. Illinois played its third match in five days and didn’t drag all day long. Irini was about to collapse at once, but in the last 44 seconds he made 10 out of 10 foul shots and came forward.

Wisconsin: Badgers aren’t shooting well, especially for quality teams. Their only victory over the team currently in the top 25 was a 77-63 victory over Loyola Chicago on December 15. Wisconsin is in good shape to host the NCAA tournament, but badgers improve their shooting.
