Monticello, Florida (WTXL) — Jefferson County leaders have petitioned for a change to an important crossroads.
After years of complaints from residents and several car accidents, Jefferson County adopted the resolution.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, eight accidents have occurred at the intersection of US 19 and the Waukina Highway in the last five years.
The driver remains confused due to obscure road markings and lack of signs.
After receiving multiple calls at the city official’s office, city officials noticed it.
Authorities say this wouldn’t usually be a problem, but traffic is increasing due to new businesses in the area.
“Our community has grown considerably lately and there are more vehicles on our streets and highways. That’s exactly when DOT investigated this particular intersection,” said Julie, Mayor of Monticello. Conley said.
Mayor Conley is confident that more lighting, better road signs, and signs can handle the situation.
Conley hopes the issue will be resolved within the next year.
