The body of a missing 1-year-old boy Jose Lara Florida Police said they were found submerged in a septic tank at home over the weekend.
The boy went missing on Sunday afternoon. He was finally seen playing with his sister outside Crescent City’s house, about an hour from Daytona Beach.
According to the Sheriff’s Office in Putnam County, Jose’s mother briefly took her sister inside, cleaned her up, and found Jose missing. A toy truck he was playing with was found in the yard.
Authorities conducted a large-scale search using bloodhounds, drones, helicopters, and night-vision tools to find the boy.
After several Bloodhounds could not find the boy, the search team decided to look around the area covered with weeds, soil and plywood and began cleaning the septic tank.
Authorities decided to drain the septic tank after investigators discovered that the grassy area appeared to be disturbed.
Sheriffs said the septic tank, just 40 yards from the house, was covered with rotten plywood, and it is believed that the child stepped on it.
“Under the layer of soil, there was plywood that had been there for some time, and it seemed to be rotten to some extent, so he Stepped on it, he actually fell“Mr. De Loach said.
Police said there was nothing suspicious at this time, but investigations are underway.
“At this point, there is no indication that any kind of fraud is suspected, but there is still active investigation,” said DeLoach.
