LAKELAND, Fla. (WJW) – Eight people were treated for minor injuries after an Amtrak train collided with a semi-tractor pulling a car carrier on Friday night.

The incident happened on Friday night lakeland, florida.

A semi-truck with seven vehicles on its trailer got stuck on the tracks while crossing, sheriff’s office said.

En route from Miami to New York, an Amtrak train carrying 163 passengers and 10 crew members was heading east along tracks paralleling US 92. A train engineer spotted the track and sounded the horn, turning on the railroad crossing arms and lights. sheriff’s report.

Sheriffs said the train stopped after traveling another 200 meters after the collision. The lead engine derailed and a minor diesel fuel leak occurred. Miraculously, all injuries sustained in the accident were reportedly minor.

Seven injured were taken by ambulance to local hospitals, one opted for private transport. Amtrak arranged for the rest of the passengers and crew to be transported to Tampa by bus.

A semi-truck driver was ordered to appear in court for failing to pass clearance at a railroad crossing. An investigation into the accident is being conducted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of officials representing CSX, Amtrak and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
