Lee Health updates visit limits due to increased COVID-19 cases

Fort myers

According to the hospital system, Lee Health has reinstated visit restrictions to keep patients and team members safe from the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the community.

Beginning Thursday, August 12, visits to the campus of Lee Health’s Adult Acute Hospital will be limited to one per patient at a time, except in the case of compassionate care. Patients do not need to specify or limit visitors. The new guidelines allow only one visitor in a room at a time.

At Gorisano Children’s Hospital, patients are allowed two designated visitors (aged 12+) who can stay in the room with the patient at the time of admission.

A few days ago, due to the current surge in COVID-19, Lee Health enforced other visit restrictions. They include:

  • Visits to the emergency department are restricted. Visitors are only allowed access to the emergency department of an adult acute care hospital for compassionate care or when it is necessary to collect information related to the provision of care (thus staff discretion). You can access the emergency department at). At Golisano’s Emergency Department, visits are limited to two people.
  • Lee Convenient Care allows visitors access to the clinic only if they need to collect information related to the provision of care or if special circumstances arise at the discretion of the clinic staff.
  • For adult outpatients, one visitor is allowed to accompany the patient for the appointment registration process. This one visitor can be with the patient before surgery and can wait in the facility’s waiting room during surgery. For pediatric patients, one parent or guardian can stay with the child and one guest is 12 years of age or older.
  • Please contact the skilled nursing unit at the Gulf Coast Medical Center, Seirei Memorial Hospital, and Health Park Care and Rehabilitation Hospital for facility visit policies.

All visitors must be at least 12 years old and need to practice social distance. Visitors should complete the screening process and disinfect their hands with an alcohol-based gel prior to their visit. All visitors should have their own mask and always wear it. Visitors who violate this policy may be required to leave the facility. Ventilation masks are not allowed to exhale. Visitors must wear a mask in the hospital room and must replace the mask if someone else enters the room while eating or drinking. Eating in the cafeteria is prohibited.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lee Health will continue to work with local, state and government officials and follow their guidance. Visit plans are created with patient, staff, and public safety in mind, but also to meet the emotional and care needs of the patient.

General hospital visits are from 8 am to 8 pm.
