Lightning strikes man at Burlington Country Club

Westampton, NJ–Wednesday afternoon, Action News learned that a man was hit by a lightning strike on a golf course in New Jersey.

It happened around 3:45 pm at the Burlington Country Club, 100 blocks on Birds Road in Westampton Township.

Authorities told Action News that a man was hit by a lightning strike while playing golf between holes 6 and 7 in a thunderstorm.

According to Westampton Township Police, the victim was found under a tree. The detective believes he was looking for a shelter there.

Police also say the tree was first struck by lightning.

No victims have been identified.

“It was weird,” said Nome Jones, a neighbor who lives right next to the golf course.

He says the storm didn’t seem to come until Wednesday afternoon.

“It was sunny. It was thunder and lightning even when the sun was shining,” Jones said.
