Long Island teacher, coach accused of raping a teenage girl appears in court

Babylon, NY (WABC)-In 2013, a teacher at the Babylon School District, who was accused of rape on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a minor, appeared in court on Friday.

Timothy Harrison, a special education teacher who taught lacrosse and basketball after the allegations first came to light in November until they were reassigned to four other employees, will be released on bail of $ 25,000. I was ordered.

Harrison, 46, from Oak Beach Arrested during traffic outage Thursday at Robert Moses Causeway on Route 27A in West Islip.

He was accused of having sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl at the age of 38, and was charged with three rapes twice and three criminal sexual acts.

“I absolutely hate it,” said Darcy Bennett, a former Babylon high school student. “I was always angry in court.”

Harrison didn’t say anything when he left the courthouse, but his lawyer denied the claim and pointed out Harrison’s role in the community.

“The history of his life is the opposite of this accusation,” said lawyer Keven Keating. “He is 46 years old. He has been in this area all the time.”

But this case is important because Babylonian students say it highlights a problem that goes back forever.

Prosecutors say they took the victim home, gave him alcohol, and had sex with her many times. His arrest occurs months after several school board enthusiastic meetings where a former student talked about allegations of general abuse in the area. ..

Bennett, who graduated from Babylon in 2009, was one of dozens, accusing him of abusing yet another teacher. She came to court on Friday to assist Harrison’s whistleblower, even though she didn’t know her.

“I think it’s important to believe in survivors, whether it’s 10, 20, or 30 years,” she said. “Because it dates back to the time of Babylon.”

However, in reality, this case may be the only case that results in criminal accusations due to the elapsed time and is not lost in defense.

“We hope that all of these types of accusations go beyond accepting the notion of truth,” Keating said.

Harrison will return to court on April 18.
