Masks are now an option for the youngest students in a New York City school, day care center

New York City (WABC)-From Monday, toddlers will take a break from masking at schools and day care centers in New York City.

Face masks are now an option for children ages 2-4.

For Wilmara Pierce, the mother of two boys, one of them turned four, which is exactly what she wanted to hear.

“Parents should have the right to choose what is good for their children,” she said. “For us adults, it is difficult to wear masks for long periods of time. For small children, they do not understand.”

According to city officials, cases of COVID have decreased by 26% in the last three weeks.

They also believe that New York has crossed the peak of this past wave.

This is a major reason why Pre-Kindergarten and Day Care Center Maskman Dates are an option.

Jovan Benjamin says his 4-year-old son Juelz is still masked at school.

“COVID is still there,” he said. “You never know who your child is sick. You don’t know what’s happening in someone else’s family.”

As the mask becomes an option for the youngest New Yorkers, the White House outlines the early stages of a Pfizer and Moderna vaccine distribution program for children under the age of five.

Officials say shots may be available by June 21st.

Mayor Eric Adams strongly recommends that New Yorkers continue to wear masks indoors, as some parents wait for the vaccine to go on sale.

He further states that if he chooses to wear a mask, school students or staff will continue to have access to the mask.
