Man barricaded house after firing ‘multiple weapons’ in Clay County neighborhood: Sheriff

lakeside, florida – Deputies surrounded the Sandy Hollow Loop home in the Lakeside area on Friday morning, while several other homes in the neighborhood were evacuated following reports of shootings, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

Lawmakers said they were called to an area off College Drive south of Old Jennings Road after reports of a “gun firing on that block.”

Sheriff Michelle Cook said the first call came around 7 a.m. and included reports of “multiple weapons” being fired outside the home. She said when her deputies responded, they heard gunfire and saw a man running inside the house and barricading it inside.

“I don’t think anyone is in the house with him, but we are here to take him into custody because of his reckless and dangerous behavior of firing weapons in the neighborhood outside his house. I’m in,” Cook said.

She said a SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called to the scene. Negotiators were urging the men to surrender and leave their homes, and the SWAT team gave residents of the area the option to evacuate.

“St. Johns River State University, just down the street, kindly opened its doors for evacuees to come there. We asked people who didn’t want to take shelter,” Cook said.

A representative said residents with families at Sandy Hollow Loop will be able to meet them at the university.

Cook clarified that the SWAT situation had nothing to do with Thursday night’s situation. Amber Alert and Kidnapping Manhunt Suspect Terry Aries Levy.

“This is a different case. In connection with last night’s Amber Alert, we are still looking for Terry Levy. We have a valid warrant for his kidnapping. ‘s social media pages.If people could take a quick look at it.And if they find him, call 911,” Cook said.

Regarding the SWAT situation at Sandy Hollow Loop, Cook said he believed the man was barricading his home, but was not 100% sure during the early stages of the investigation.

“We don’t understand why he came out and started firing his weapons,” she said. “So when the patrol responded and locked him in the house, we called his SWAT team and the crisis negotiators. I’m going to try to kick you out.”
