Monster Trade: Dodgers Get Scherzer, Turner from Nationals

Los Angeles-World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers signed a monster deal with Ace Max Scherzer and all-star shortstop Trea Turner to win a dynamic duo from the Washington Nationals shortly before the closing date on Friday.

Washington won a rookie pair, right-handed Josiah Gray and catcher Keibert Ruiz, and two minor leaguers, right-handed Gerald Carilo and outfielder Donovan Casey.

Scherzer was given permission to talk to the Dodgers and see if he would waive his right to refuse the transaction. This is the power of a 10-year veteran who has been on the team for more than 5 years.

“Today, I’m afraid to say goodbye to the two best and two best players in the history of the team,” Nationals owner Mark Lerner said in a statement.

The deal was made by the Dodgers three games ahead of San Francisco, the leader in the National League West. Los Angeles is the leader in wildcard racing, 21/2 games ahead of San Diego.

Major League Baseball trade deadlines are 4:00 pm Eastern Standard Time, and speculation has circulated that Padres will be the winner of Scherzer’s sweepstakes on Thursday.

Instead, the Dodgers got really busy. Earlier that day, they traded with Kansas City’s longtime left-handed starter Danny Duffy, and then approached Scherzer, the biggest award for this deadline frenzy.

The Nationals, who dropped out of the playoffs, were just as active, making several deals in 24 hours.

Scherzer was 8-4, ERA was 2.76 in 19 games this season, and the National League All-Star Game also started this month.

Scherzer won the Nationals on Thursday when he threw a six-inning one-run ball in Philadelphia in his first doubleheader match.

Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young Award winner and an eight-time All-Star winner, has joined talented pitching staff such as Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, Julio Urias, and David Price.

Scherzer has a salary of $ 35 million in the final season of the $ 210 million seven-year contract and can become a free agent after the World Series. Undoubtedly, the Dodgers now think they can go this year with Mad Max on their side.

37-year-old Lighty is a fierce competitor, often stalking around the mound between pitches and firing himself and his teammates.

Scherzer has a 14-year career in Arizona, Detroit and Washington and is 183-97 years old (including two no-hitters and no-runs). He signed a big deal with the Nationals with the goal of winning the World Series and helped achieve the franchise’s first championship in 2019.

Scherzer did not make a decision when he started Round 7 of the title clincher in Houston. He is 7-5 and ERA is 3.38 in post-season play.

Turner is the power of the whole field, hitting .322 with 18 home runs, 49 RBs and 21 stolen bases.

Turner is currently inactive after a positive COVID-19 test. He scored a single and score on his first inning in Philadelphia on Tuesday night before being pulled out of the game.

28-year-old Turner became an All-Star for the first time this season. He did it on his birthday last month and set a major league record by hitting a third cycle in his career.

Turner is a .300 batter in a seven-season career, starting with a center fielder and a major second baseman. It will certainly appeal to the Dodgers, who employ many versatile players.

He has earned $ 13 million this season, is eligible for arbitration next winter and will be able to become a free agent after the 2022 World Series.

Corey Seager was a Series MVP last year as a Dodgers shortstop. He broke his right hand when he was hit by the pitch on May 15, and has been on the injured list ever since.

Seger has returned to the Dodgers Spring Complex to return to the form of the game, and there was talk of him being able to rejoin the club this weekend.

Scherzer was able to participate in the Los Angeles rotation held by Trevor Bauer. MLB and the Athletes’ Union have taken Bauer’s leave on July 2 based on a policy of joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse in sports.

Police and MLB are investigating allegations of sexual misconduct against pitchers, and his vacation has been extended to August 6.
