More than 400 companies support LGBTQ rights law

Supporters said Tuesday that more than 400 companies, including Tesla, Pfizer, Delta Air Lines and Amazon, have signed to uphold the civil rights law of LGBTQ people passing parliament.

The Washington-based LGBTQ advocacy Human Rights Campaign said the Business Alliance for Equality Law has grown to 416 members, including dozens of Fortune 500 companies. Well-known companies such as Apple, PepsiCo, General Motors, CVS, Facebook, Marriott, Capital One, Starbucks and Home Depot are on the list.

In a statement distributed by the Human Rights Campaign, IBM’s Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer Carla Grant Pickens said, “Civil rights protection has been extended to LGBT + individuals across the country with clear, consistent and comprehensive standards. It’s time to come. “

The Equality Act will amend the existing Civil Rights Act to explicitly include sexual orientation and gender identity as protected traits. These protections extend to employment, mortgages, loan applications, education and other areas.

The bill passed the US House of Representatives 224-206 in February, with only three Republicans supporting it by all Democrats. Its fate in the tightly divided Senate is uncertain. The House of Representatives also passed the bill in the last parliament, but did not advance to the Senate.

Among the opponents of the bill is the American Catholic Bishops’ Council, which states that it could force church halls and facilities to host features that violate their beliefs.

According to the Human Rights Campaign, corporate support for the bill has more than doubled since the House of Representatives first passed it in 2019.

In a statement, President Alfonso David of the Human Rights Campaign said, “We understand that equality law is good for our employees, our business, and our country, so we are gaining more support from business leaders. There are. “
