National Karate Athletes from Stockton Training for the Olympics

San Jose, CA — Joan Obon from Stockton is a national karate athlete and has won all levels except the Olympic level — she happens to be training.

Obon has fought for the rest of his life, but recently served a new purpose.

“Karate wasn’t expected to compete in the Olympics. Before that, he said,” I want to be a world champion. ” Now it’s “I want to be the Olympics,” Obon said.

This is almost everything Orban has left to achieve. She is a 12-time USA National Champion, Continental Champion, and was ranked 7th nationwide before leaving Team USA to become part of Team Philippines.

She fights in San Jose and owns her own gym.

“My dad saw this as a long-term career for me. He knew that doing business and doing what I was good at was a passion,” Obon said. It was.

Orbon said that this passionate career is important for girls to see and understand what they can do.

“We’ve been able to continue our career as an athlete and change the Bay Area and their view of karate far beyond the’Karate Kid’, so we can do as much as we want,” Obon said. I will.

Orbon departed for the Olympic training camp in Istanbul on March 17, the last stop before the Olympics. There she competes for more than herself.

“I represent many people. I represent undervalued people and communities around the world. I happen to be Stockton’s little girl who did it,” says Oban. I did.
