Two-time NBA head coach Mike D’Antoni played an important role as top assistant to first-year Nets head coach Steve Nash, but Nets locked in a 2-2 battle with Bucks at the Eastern Conference. In the semi-finals, ESPN reported that D’Antoni was scheduled to interview the Trail Blazers on Monday for a vacant head coach job.
It questioned whether D’Antoni traveled to Portland for an interview or stayed in Brooklyn with Nets to prepare for Game 5 on Tuesday night at Barclays Center.
“No, Mike is with us,” Nash said. “I’m assuming that [interview] On the zoom or phone, he hasn’t missed the beat. He is doing everything with us here. “
Nash smiled and added, “I don’t like to fine coaches, but if Mike goes off the line and has to impose a lot of fines, I’ll definitely do.”
Nash spent much of his Hall of Fame playing with Sands under D’Antoni. The 70-year-old D’Antoni also coaches the Rockets, Lakers, Knicks and Nuggets, and holds a career record of 672-527 over 16 seasons.
